Get started with activities

The following activities are examples designed to help you get started with the ePocket Chart tool.

Activity 1 - Let's find pictures (images) that begin with the Letters A, B, and C

Find images on the shelf that begin with the letters A, B, and C (free space). See steps below to create this activity.

  1. Select the Free Workspace work view on the Welcome page or the Gear > Settings dialog.
  2. Select Build Cards. The keyboard appears.
  3. Select the Up arrow to change the keyboard to all CAPS.
  4. Build a card for the letters A, B, and C.
  5. Select the letter A on the keyboard.
  6. Click Done.
  7. Repeat the steps to build cards for letters B and C. Use the arrows to view the cards on the shelf, if necessary.
  8. Drag and drop the letter cards on the work area in vertical order.
  9. Select the Gear icon. The Settings dialog appears.
  10. Go to the Change your work area appearance section, ensure Show Shelf is selected and click Clear Shelf. Click Close (x) when you are done.
  11. Click Image Bank. A catalog of images appear.
  12. Select images that begin with the letters A, B, and C.
  13. Drag and drop the images on the shelf.
  14. Engage your students in the activity and have fun!

Activity 2 - Let's build words that match the pictures

Build words that match the pictures using Elkonin boxes. See steps below to create this activity.

  1. Select the Elkonin Boxes/Chart work view on the Welcome page or the Gear > Settings dialog.
  2. Click the Plus icon to add four boxes.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Click Search to find the following images.
    • Book
    • Bird
    • Ball
    • Bat
  5. Use Build Cards and build cards for the individual letters that make up the words for book, bird, ball, and bat, if necessary. You can always search or check the Work Bank for words you can use.
  6. Drag and drop the letters in the Elkonin boxes to create the word for the images on the shelf.
  7. Engage your students in the activity and have fun!

Activity 3 - Let's build sentences with images, words, and word parts

Build sentences with images, words, and word parts in the Pocket chart. See steps below to create this activity.

  1. Select the Pocket Chart work view on the Welcome page or the Gear > Settings dialog.
  2. Click the Plus icon to add four rows.
  3. Use Build Cards to build the following words or use the Word Bank to find the words.
    • The
    • is
    • for
    • sing
    • read
    • smil
  4. Click Done after building each card.
  5. Use Word Parts to find the ing word part.
  6. Use Search to find the following images.
    • bird
    • book
    • girl
  7. Drag and drop the words, images, and word parts to the shelf, if necessary.
  8. Drag and drop the words, images, and word parts to start and/or complete the sentences in the Pocket Chart rows.
  9. Engage your students in the activity and have fun!
