Assignments Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I create assignments?

You can create assignments by using the Library or Assignments List page.

2. How do I add a student(s) to an existing assignment?

You can add groups or students to existing assignments by using the Edit Assignments page.

3. How do I edit an assignment’s due date?

You can edit an assignment’s start or due date for all students or individual students by using the Assignments panel or the Start or Due date columns in the Students list.

4. How do I hide/show an assignment?

You can show or hide student assignments by using the Show/Hide toggle button on the Assignments List page.

5. How do I view student assignment notes and ebook customizations?

You can view all or a single student’s Close Reading and Sticky notes by using the Notes icon in the Students List table header.

You can view assigned ebook customizations and customize materials for individual students; if necessary, by using the Customize Materials (Open book) icon on the Students List row.

6. Is every assignment graded?

No. The option to access Grade View only appears for eAssessment assignments.

7. How does grading work for open response questions? Can I just skip grading these questions?

If you skip grading an open response question, the results for the entire assessment will not appear in Reports. How grading works depends on your district’s subscriptions:

  1. In most Benchmark programs, you'll have access to the AI Grading Assistant, which helps score open responses.

8. Why aren’t my students’ assessment results showing up in Reports?

There are a variety of scenarios in which student eAssessment results may not appear in Reports.

  1. Student did not submit the test. Check the student’s Status on the Assignment Details page to ensure that the student’s status is Complete.
  2. Assessment was not graded. Visit the Grade View page to ensure there are no questions that need your intervention.
  3. There was a roster change. Sometimes, a roster change triggers a student’s assignment to move to a different class if they are rostered to multiple classes. Learn more about transferred assignments here.

9. Where can I find step-by-step instructions for creating an eAssessment assignment?

10. Can I change the status of my student’s assignment, or do I need to reassign it?

Yes, you can change the status of a student’s assignment by following the steps here.

11. What is the difference between closing and deleting an assignment?

  1. Closing an Assignment
    1. Removes the assignment from your Assignment List and moves it to the Closed bucket.
    2. Removes the assignment from your students’ Assignment Lists.
    3. Data for closed eAssessment assignments will continue to display in Reports if the assignment has been graded.
  2. Deleting an Assignment
    1. Removes the assignment from your Assignment List and moves it to the Deleted bucket.
    2. Removes the assignment from your students’ Assignment Lists.
    3. Data for deleted eAssessment assignments will not display in Reports.
